EWG wants final sunscreen monograph

In an Oct. 6 letter, the Environmental Working Group asks FDA's Nonprescription Drug Advisory Committee to encourage FDA to finalize the long-awaited sunscreen monograph. In its appeal to the advisory panel, environmental watchdog asks them to consider EWG's recent report assessing UVA protection in sunscreens on the market, which "highlights the need for legally enforceable rules on 'broad-spectrum' sun protection," organization says. "The longer the FDA leaves sunscreen products in a state of regulatory limbo, the longer unscrupulous manufacturers will be able to profit from those who believe their unsubstantiated claims," EWG President Kenneth Cook writes
