Executive Summary

ECHA: The European Chemicals Agency, created to oversee data collection and other administrative duties under the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) law in Europe, says Thomas Jakl will chair its management board for a second two-year term following unanimous confirmation at board's Sept. 30 meeting in Helsinki, Finland. Jakl is director of the Chemicals Policy department of the Austrian Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management, "responsible for environmental protection related to substances and chemical products," according to his bio on ECHA's website. He has been a member of ECHA's management board since the agency was established and chair since September 2008. During its meeting, the board also adopted its 2011 Work Programme, which will be posted to the agency's website soon, ECHA notes in the Oct. 5 release
