Never Mind IUCLID: Study Identifies Costs As Biggest Obstacle To SMEs’ REACH Registration

An ECHA-commissioned study finds the substantial cost of REACH compliance has SMEs considering portfolio rationalization, reduced production levels and other tactics to circumvent registration. According to ECHA, the study "confirms uncertainties" about SMEs' intentions as the May 31, 2018 phase-in deadline for low-tonnage chemicals draws closer, and the agency is exploring solutions accordingly.

ECHA Pursues Fees From Misclassified REACH Registrants

Registrants who have misclassified their entity size in order to pay smaller registration fees under Europe’s REACH chemicals program are being asked to submit new registrations or appeal to the agency’s Board of Appeal within three months, according to a Nov. 16 release from the agency.

ECHA Refines Compliance Checks For REACH Dossiers

The European Chemicals Agency is implementing “targeted” compliance checks on registration dossiers under REACH to address issues that have an “immediate impact on safety,” ECHA Senior Scientific Officer George Cartlidge reported at the agency’s May 23 Stakeholders Day, one year in advance of the next REACH registration deadline.
